Public Legal Aid
The Office of the People’s Lawyer (OPL) is responsible for the provision of legal aid and services to the members of the community who are not in a position to afford those through the private lawyers. Unlike the other departments, OPL does not have a legal foundation for its establishment.
However, the unique and status of the services and aid they provides demands for an independent and impartial administration. MOJ is committed to see that the OPL is allowed to deliver their services without hindrances.
OPL was once independent for two years when it first separated from the Judiciary.
